Seymour Guado

Final Fantasy X - Main Story

  1. Macalania Temple — The Mask Breaks

Seymour leaves Guadosalam to go to Macalania Temple. He proposes to Lady Yuna, but why does he do this? Without leaving a note? Did he already feel something… a warning from his father? Or is he simply afraid of being rejected? Before continuing the story, I need to say this:

"They say Seymour went to Macarena Temple" - Tidus

This is absolutely my favorite line in the entire game. It’s so funny. The person who did the English translation must have had a lot of fun with this. In my head I immediately hear:

"Dale a tu cuerpo alegría Macarena…"

    Anyway...
Yuna arrives first at Macalania Temple together with Tromell. She has a conversation with Seymour about his father, Lord Jyscal. She tries to convince him to turn himself in to Yevon’s judgment in exchange for marriage. Seymour does not reply right away. Maybe he is still thinking about it?

After watching the Jyscal's sphere, Kimahri rushes out of the room, Auron wasn't so surprised, Rikku is worried, Wakka didn't want to go because Seymour Guado is a Maester.

Yuna is praying in the Chamber of the Fayth, while Seymour stands outside with two Guado guardians. Tidus, of course, cannot keep his mouth shut and needs to be told that Lady Yuna is praying.

The door opens, and Yuna comes out. The guardians already know about Jyscal’s sphere that Yuna left behind. Seymour reacts very calmly:
    "What of it?"

No hesitation. No surprise. He already knows exactly what he has done.

He then asks why Yuna has come. She tells him she has come to stop him. Seymour answers: “I see. You came to punish me then.”

He walks toward her and holds out his hand. This might sound strange, but I think this hand is his answer to their earlier conversation. It is his way of accepting judgment… or perhaps offering himself to her decision.

Of course, Yuna does not accept it.

And so the first battle begins.

"Oh no… we have to fight Anima" Jenangel

I died here because of her Overdrive, “Oblivion,” and Seymour’s -ra spells. He wiped out my whole party

    His final words:

"Yuna… you would pity me now?"

Seymour falls on his back and dies. And I think this is a very touching scene, because Yuna is the one who closes his eyes.

  2. Bevelle - The Wedding

The Guado kidnap Lady Yuna from the Al Bhed Home in the Summoner’s Sanctum. I have always loved this line on the Airship, Fahrenheit:

"I’m glad Yuna’s okay and all, but what’s with those fancy clothes?" - Wakka / "It’s called a wedding dress" - Lulu

I love Lulu's reaction because this is so dry!

    "What!?" - Wakka

Oh no, he is shocked. Call Yevon! Are you serious, Wakka? You don’t know what a wedding dress looks like?

I think this is one of the most powerful scenes in the entire game, because this is where Yuna’s character development truly shines. Seymour is now an Unsent, and his feelings for her are spiraling out of control.

According to the Final Fantasy X Ultimania Omega Guide, Seymour knew the reason why Yuna continued with “the wedding.” In other words, she was trying to go through with the marriage even though he knew Yuna’s heart wasn’t his.

Yuna’s Guardians are surrounded by soldiers. Does Yuna have a magical bag?
Or did she hide her staff underneath her dress? She stands tall and strong in front of Seymour.

Yuna tries to send Seymour during the Wedding

According to the Final Fantasy X Ultimania Omega Guide, Lord Mika interrupts
“the Sending” because he is also an Unsent. At first glance, it seems like he is protecting Seymour, but in reality he does not want to go to the Farplane himself. For Yuna there are only two choices: abandon her Guardians, or accept Seymour’s hand in marriage.

Tidus and her Guardians are watching the wedding continue, with Seymour stepping toward Yuna. She looks frightened, and I think she also feels vulnerable in that dress. Rikku is worried and looks at Lulu. Lulu looks away because she does not want to see this. Wakka is gasping, and I am like: come on Wakka, you could have thrown a Blitzball at his head!

Seymour Guado and Yuna kiss Tidus angry
Seymour and Yuna share a kiss in front of an angry Tidus. If a stare could kill,
Tidus’ stare would definitely be super effective.

I have watched this scene frame by frame, and it really feels like Seymour is the one who enjoys the kiss the most. He puts so much passion into it… almost like his life depends on it. Or maybe, in Final Fantasy X style, before going to the Farplane he wants to experience what a passionate kiss really feels like.
The wedding bells are ringing in the background.

After the kiss, Seymour orders the soldiers to kill her Guardians.

    "Kill them." - Seymour

Yuna wipes her mouth in disgust, full of anger toward Seymour who has betrayed her trust. She is so determined that she does not surrender her heart to him.
